The Grey & Simcoe Foresters Regimental Museum has recently emerged as a cultural gem in downtown Barrie.
The historic building is located at 36 Mulcaster St., one block north of the restaurants and shops of Dunlop St. and directly across from the MacLaren Art Centre.

This Militia Drill Hall was erected in 1888-89, following the fiery destruction of the original Drill Shed of the 35th Battalion of Infantry (Simcoe Foresters) in 1885. The building has undergone extensive internal restorations, executed by volunteers and has been fitted out with new wall-to-wall exhibit cabinetry, generously provided by a grant from Molson Coors Canada.

After some years of limited operation in the north wing of the building, the newly redesigned Museum continues its dual mandate of preserving and passing on the history of the Grey & Simcoe Foresters Regiment, while firmly anchoring the Regiment's position as an entity sprung from the sons and daughters of the community.

The Museum provides tangible and meaningful reminders of the community’s important military contributions to the development of Canada as a nation and to the nation’s subsequent involvement in world affairs.

The exhibits in the Museum provide a chronological history of the Regiment, with artefacts from the Riel Rebellion, the Boer War, World Wars I and ll, the Korean War, the action in Bosnia, the recent Afghanistan tasking and more.

The Owen Sound Annex of the Regimental Museum is located in the Owen Sound Armoury, just a few blocks from downtown. The Annex’s collection is mainly focused on World War One and commemorates the history of the 31st Grey Battalion of Infantry as well as the current Grey & Simcoe Foresters. This facility emphasizes the contributions of the citizen soldiers of Grey County
