Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Christopher B Pawliw was born in Durham, Ontario and grew up in the rural town of Mount Forest, Ontario. He joined the Grey and Simcoe Foresters, as a Private in Owen Sound, Ontario in 1992. He underwent basic training in Ipperwash and Infantry training at ATC Meaford. Upon completion of his trades training CWO Pawliw completed his QL4 Machine Gunner Course in Stratford, Ontario.
CWO Pawliw has held all positions within the regiment for a NCO from a rifleman to his current position as Regimental Sergeant Major. On top of his regimental positions he has also instructed on many courses for the regiment, Regional Summer Training and CBG Battleschool’s some examples are QL2 Recruit (Co-op), QL3 Infantry, DP2A IPSW, Driver, etc. CWO Pawliw as well has been an integral part of the Division Arctic Response Company Group deploying for the past number of years as the Company Sergeant Major to both Northern Ontario and Nunavut.
CWO Pawliw has had the opportunity to complete three Operational overseas missions with the first being Op Harmony, Croatia under the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) from October 1994 to May 1995 with 1 RCR as a Rifleman. His next deployment was Op Sculpture, Sierra Leone, working for the British Lead International Military Advisory Training Team specifically with the Infantry Training Advisory Team as a Company Sergeant Major advisor/mentor for the Sierra Leone Training Centre from November 2006 to June 2007. CWO Pawliw’s most recent deployment was Op Athena, Afghanistan, where he was employed within the Operational Mentor Liaison Teams from April 2010 to December 2010. He was employed as a Regimental Sergeants Major mentor for the 404 Maiwand Regional Police Headquarters which covered all of Southern Afghanistan who employed more than 20 000 police officers. As well as those duties he also mentored the Regional G1 and Regional Recruiting officers within the Headquarters.
Chief Warrant Officer Pawliw was appointed RSM of the Grey and Simcoe Foresters on 13 December 2014.
Chief Warrant Officer Pawliw is currently employed with the Emergency and Protection Services at Bruce Power.
Chief Warrant Officer Pawliw is married to Angella (nee Vanderhayden) Pawliw since 2004. They have two young girls Gabrielle and Bailey. Since 2008 they have resided in Meaford, Ontario. He and his family enjoy camping and most outdoor activities.
